If you have a burning passion for anime and singing, this may be your chance - HoriPro is on the hunt for new talents to join their anisong all-girls idol group, Sea☆A (pronounced as sea-ay). The quartet is made up of Singaporeans Beryl, Estelle and Valerie and Wynnie, who is Malaysian.
The bubbly girls, who were friends waitressing at an anime-themed cafe prior to being scouted and whisked away to stardom, displayed their undeniable group chemistry as they finished each others' sentences and chimed in at the exact same time during their interview with xinmsn.
Sea☆A's members gushed about their road to stardom, with Beryl sharing, 'It's a dream come true because we always wanted to go to Japan.' In their early 20s, the girls have made a name for themselves in the anisong industry and have performed at major events, including the prestigious Animax Musix 2011 along big names such as May'n.
Having celebrated their one-year anniversary last month, Sea☆A has big dreams for the future, with Wynnie, 23, sharing that their short term goal is simply to 'sing more anime songs' and that they wish to stand on the stage of the Budokan (Tokyo Dome) one day, with Estelle calling it 'the dream stage in Japan'.
Taking time to reflect on how they have complimented one another in more ways than one, the girls shared the important roles they've played in each other's lives. Estelle shared that Wynnie is 'always full of energy' and Valerie was likened to 'a stuffed toy you want to take home'.
Beryl expressed, 'although Estelle is the youngest among all of us, she seems like an onee-san (older sister in Japanese) in the way she always takes care of us.' Beryl, 21, the princess of the group, was described to be 'secretly funny' while remaining 'calm and graceful'.
Shuttling in between Japan and their home countries for training, the girls named seeing their favourite seiyuus (voice actors) and being able to inspire large audiences at such a young age as the best parts of the job.
At the end of the interview, the quartet explained their respective trademark numbers stitched onto numerous outfits. Valerie, 21, explained that the '1' etched on her clothes stood for 'One heart; one dream; one passionate Sea☆A,' and 'one for all and all for one'.
Wynnie's number seven was more of a good luck charm while Beryl's '16' represented home as she took the numerical digits of her family members' birthday months and added them together. 'It gives me the feeling that my family is always here supporting me wherever I go.'
Estelle, 20, shared that the meaning behind her number, 19, was split into two - '1' stands for the same reason as Valerie's and '9' is simply her favourite number squared as she sees it as 'double the awesomeness.'
