A classmate of Zhao Wei and Chen Kun at the Beijing Film Academy, Huang Xiaoming failed to achieve a similar level of fame until 2003, when he played the lead character in the drama Da Han Tian Zi. He later landed the role of Yang Guo in the 2006 remake of Return of the Condor Heroes, his most notable role to date.
He rose to prominence through his dramas (such as Shanghai Bund, a remake of the drama that turned Chow Yun-fat into a household name), but soon began starring in movies, such as Feng Xiaogang's The Banquet (2006) and Dante Lam's The Sniper (2008). His most recent movie was Chen Ko-fu's The Message, in which he played the main antagonist.
Two of his most anticipated projects in 2010 include Taiwanese drama Summer's Desire, in which Xiaoming stars alongside Barbie Hsu (Da S), and the sequel to Ip Man, in which Donnie Yen reprises his role as the titular character and Xiaoming plays one of Ip Man's disciples (the one who mentored Bruce Lee).
Xiaoming is one of those actors who aspire to be a triple threat by modeling and singing as well. He's obviously a great model -- with those looks and those eyes, how could he not? -- and is the first Asian model featured by Gucci. As for singing, he has a bit of way to go, although his voice is pleasant when he's not off-key. He currently has one album under his belt and has another planned for release in mid-March.
Apart from his acting, modeling, and singing endeavors, Xiaoming is also a Panda Ambassador and the adopted daddy of twin pandas, named Ping Ping and An An, who were the first panda cubs born after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
His most well-known role so far is that of Yang Guo in Zhang Jizhong's Return of the Condor Heroes, in which he stars alongside Crystal Liu Yifei. (By the way, don't be scared off by his appearance in the following clip; he's just wearing a mask, which he later takes off, resulting in Yang Mi's character fangirling all over him.)
His best performance to date is probably that of Xu Wenqiang in Shanghai Bund. Sun Li plays his love interest, the spoiled daughter of a rich businessman whom Wenqiang works for. (This drama is highly recommended, but only if you don't mind depressing stuff. MyGeneva at YouTube has a lot of good clips, if you want to check them out.)
In the 2009 spy thriller The Message, Xiaoming was the main baddie, Colonel Takeda. To prepare for the role, he spent months learning and practicing Japanese, but his voice was ultimately dubbed. Following is an English-subbed trailer for the movie, which can be found in its entirety on YouTube. Other stars in the movie include Li Bingbing, Zhou Xun, Zhang Hanyu, and Alec Su.

The reason why I love him so much? He's one hell of a hard worker. Nothing but ambition and diligence could have gotten him to where he is now, especially since he isn't naturally talented at acting (or singing). Of course, it helps that he's extremely good-looking. ;) I have a soft spot for guys who can be handsome, pretty, and cute all in one bundle, and Huang Xiaoming is the epitome of that combination.
