Taipei, June 24 (CNA)
Singer and song-writer Wang Leehom was warmly surrounded by fans in Manchester Saturday local time where his one-minute Olympic torch relay schedule was snarled, taking him 10 minutes to complete, his agent said Sunday. On the 440-meter run, along with four other ethnic Chinese torch relayers, many fans stopped him and asked for his autographs. When he finally reached his bus, the fans simply blocked it from moving, delaying the London Olympic torch relaying event by more than one hour, according to the agent in Taipei. The bus finally got on the road after police cleared the way. When he got the torch, he jumped up and spread himself all out in a gesture of "bringing torch light to the full." He said he was very pleased to be able to participate in this meaningful activity.
Tommy Chen, an ultramarathon runner who in 2010 ran in both North Pole and Antarctic marathons, was another Taiwanese celebrity joining the event in Manchester, United Kingdom, Sunday morning local time. Chen's 300-meter run was completed in less than 6 minutes, an unforgettable experience which he said he would like to share with Taiwanese young people and to encourage them to bravely pursue their dreams. "As long as we persist, we will eventually make our dreams come true," he told the CNA. Chen was scheduled to leave for Spain on June 29 for a competition.
