Hong Kong director John Woo (吴宇森) has temporarily put aside his busy filming schedules to treat his illness in the US.
As to his health issue, however, there are several explanations doing the rounds.
The most shocking one claims he suffers from laryngeal cancer and has been hospitalized for four months.
Some rumors suggest something is wrong with his heart, while others said he has to undergo pancreas surgery in the US.
If his treatment goes smoothly, the 66-year-old is expected to make a comeback at the end of this year, at the earliest.
ETA: Terence Chang issued a statement denying recent rumors that John Woo had throat or pancreatic cancer or a heart ailment. According to him, Woo had the beginnings of a throat tumor removed at the beginning of the year in Taipei and went to the US to rest but he was not hospitalized there as reported.
