Principal photography begins at the end of the month on Bruce Lee, My Brother (少年李小龍), a new biopic that stars Aarif Lee (李治廷) as Bruce Lee (李小龍) and screen newcomer Jennifer Tse (謝婷婷) as Lee’s girlfriend.
Directed by Raymond Yip (葉偉民), the film is budgeted at HK$35m (US$4.5m), and is produced by Manfred Wong (文雋). Co-production companies are Media Asia (寰亞電影有限公司), J.A. Media (吉安永嘉影視文化傳媒有限公司), J-Star Group, Beijing Antaeus (北京今典集團) and Beijing Meng Ze Culture & Media.
Other cast includes mainland actress Angela Gong (貢米), MC Jin (歐陽靖), Hanjin, Charles Ying (應昌佑) and Wilfred Lau (劉浩龍).
Media Asia says today’s announcement, made next to the Lee statue at the Avenue of Stars in Kowloon, is timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Lee’s birth. Lee was born on 27 Nov 1940 in San Francisco and died in Hong Kong aged 32 of a cerebral edema.
The Lee legend is still proving potent for film-makers. It recently inspired hit films Ip Man (葉問) and Ip Man 2 (葉問2) and The Legend Is Born: Ip Man (葉問前傳), an unofficial prequel to the Ip Man pair. Wong Kar-wai (王家衛) is also in production on The Grand Master (一代宗師), another telling of the story of Lee’s tutor.
Hmmm, Idk how I feel about this...
