Jay's Pandaman a copycat?

Jay Chou's upcoming science-fiction TV drama series, Pandaman has been suspected of plagiarizing a Hong Kong comic series. The accusations were sparked off when imaging photos of the set were released. His managing company stepped forth and clarified that both the story and imaging of Pandaman are original creations.

Busy directing and filming Pandaman, the Taiwanese singer expressed that the character was inspired by the gifts of panda bears that China presented to Taiwan. He wanted the superhero character to be as chivalrous and vigilant as Marvel comic book characters, Spiderman and Batman. Despite his claims, netizens have discovered a distinct similarity between the comic character created by Hong Kong cartoonist, Kang Jiang Quan and Chou's Pandaman.

Apart from the similar outlook in characters, the stories in both series strikingly echo one another. Pandaman is set in Hong Kong in the year 2020 where the story will revolve around a character that upholds justice in society. This description is said to bear strong resemblance to that of Kang's comic plot.

Chou is joining Seth Rogen, Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz in the July 9, 2010 release.

"It's an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee," Chou said in a statement.

"I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato -- I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part," he said.

Comments: One of the commenters at Superhero Hype thought he was Danny Chan, who was in Shaolin Soccer and looks like Bruce Lee. Eeek.

I hope this gives him enough time to churn out a good next album.

Zhang Ziyi's relationship on the rocks

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Tongues are wagging about the state of affairs between Zhang Zi Yi and her Caucasian boyfriend. Word is their engagement is off and both have been separated for the past two months.

The Chinese actress hooked up with 43-year-old billionaire, Vivi Nevo in 2007. Even since the couple got together, Zhang has been seen rubbing shoulders with the elites. She also started acting like an American-born-Chinese and spoke English all the time. But in the last two months, she has not been seen with Vivi and reportedly returned to her hometown in Beijing.

The couple originally planned to get hitched this year in August. However, their sudden decision to annul the marriage in previous months has set tongues wagging. Sources say Zhang flew to America and failed to salvage their sinking relationship.

Zhang's latest film, Sophie's Revenge, is set to be released soon. In the movie she will portray the role of an abandoned girlfriend who tries all sorts of methods to win back the affections of her boyfriend. When asked if it was a case of reel life meeting real, the actress begged to differ, "The kind of women I like and respect are the ones who are more independent and opinionated. They have their own beliefs and values. How can they center their lives around a man?" She believes that a perfect woman is capable of making her own decisions and will never be led on by a man.

Wait, how could they get their marriage annulled if they hadn't even gotten married yet? Anyway, I had to LOL at the comment about her acting like an ABC.

Mayday's brazen fan

AS ROCK cliches go, this one is right up there.

Midway through their concert in Shanghai last month, something was flung unexpectedly on stage, leaving the boys of Taiwanese pop-rock band Mayday surprised and embarrassed.

It was a bra, courtesy of an overly enthusiastic female fan.

Said lead singer Ashin, 33, in an interview with The New Paper: 'We had witnessed such sights before at a Bon Jovi concert and were looking forward to similar spontaneity from our fans.

'But we were slightly taken aback by the fact that our maiden experience happened in mainland China. We didn't think the ladies there were so liberal!'

Mayday was in town recently to promote its upcoming concert, to be held at the end of the month at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The bra-flinging incident clearly piqued the interest of many at the press conference.

One journalist cheekily asked if 'it (the bra) was still warm' when it came into contact with the guys.

While Ashin grinned and said they were 'too engrossed in their set' to notice it, his bandmate, drummer Guan You, didn't hesitate to spill the beans.

'Ashin was the one who picked up the bra and took it backstage,' said the 36-year old father of two.

'As he was walking, bra in hand, he commented: 'Why did the girl throw this at us? She should just have come up and joined us.'

The joke, a dig at Ashin's perennial bachelor status, cracked everyone up at the press conference.
