Taipei, April 4 (CNA) A fiery A-mei (張惠妹) kicked off her "Utopia" concert marathon in Taipei on Saturday, captivating fans with a spellbinding audio and visual feast.
The concert opened with A-mei giving a heated performance of her new song "Freak Show" while sitting on a chair on a platform that is suspended in the air.
The pop diva, a member of Taiwan's indigenous Puyuma tribe, wore a gigantic antler-shaped headpiece as she descended onto the stage. The red headpiece symbolizes the spirits of god, ancestors and fairies in the Puyuma culture.
The singer then performed "What Do You Want," "Bloody Love Story," "Love Is The Only Way," "Victoria's Secrets" and other songs to a crowd of 11,000 fans at the Taipei Arena venue, which was lit up by colorful laser and LED icicle lights.
The 3.5-hour concert climaxed when A-mei, a staunch supporter for same-sex marriage and other gay rights, sang "Rainbow" while a huge rainbow flag covered the entire audience on the first floor.
There is still a long road in the fight for equal marriage rights and everyone should help move forward the cause, A-mei said.
"Thank you all for coming to see me on the first show," the singer said to the crowd of roaring fans.
Nine more "Utopia" concerts will take place at the Taipei Arena until April 15.
For all you A-mei fans.
